Sheeting

Branch Bros stock a good variety of sheets of timber to make sure we have the correct materials for the right job.

All our our sheeting materials come in sheets or 2.4m x 1.2m (8' x 4'). But we also sell it in half and quarter sheets aswell as per square meter. Always remember we provide a free cutting service so you can get it the exact measurement you want.

The following is the range of sheeting we stock with a description of what it is for.

Blockboard

Blockboard is a type of sheeting constructed of strips of softwood glued together usually about 25mm thick. These strips are then encased in 2 sheets of hardwood to give it a quality finish. It has a similar purpose as MDF but is of a better quality.

Chipboard

Chipboard is a type of sheeting that is constructed of wood particles glued and compressed together to form a rigid board. The manufacturing process is fairly cheap therefore the cost of the board is. It is usually used indoors in lofts etc.

Hardboard

Hardboard is a type of sheeting that is similar to MDF but at a much higher density and strength. Our hard board is wet made and only has one smooth side. Also we only keep hard board in 3.2mm thickness to provide a product that is very thin but still has a fair amount of strength. Hardboard is usually used in construction and furniture.

MDF

MDF is a type of timber sheeting that is used indoors for multiple uses. It is heat and moisture resistant and has a high strength factor and is cheap so it is ideal for DIY.

OSB

OSB is a type of timber sheeting that is constructed of wooden strips compressed together using wax and resin. This type of sheeting was made to be of the same strength as plywood but to be less expensive. Due to this OSB is not as water resistant and isn't recommended for exterior use.

Pegboard

Pegboard is the basically perforated hardboard. It has the same properties and is the same thickness as hardboard but is perforated throughout. This allows the holes to be used to hang up items. This may be used in a garage to hang up tools or used in a shed to hang up items. It is not reccomended to use pegboard outdoors.

Pinboard

Pin board is a type of sheeting that is used to pin items to it. It is made of a very soft mix of wooden particles that make it very easy to pin things up on it. This is primarily used to pin paper work etc top the wall.

Plywood

Plywood is a type of timber sheeting that is constructed in a very different way. It is made using thin sheets of timber glued together but with the tread of each sheet at right angles to each other. This increases the strength of the product and the quality.

There are many types of plywood available, the main type that Branch Bros stock is the hardwood plywood which again increases the quality and water resistance.
